Hodgson New England Manager

Roy Hodgson will almost certainly be named England Manager as he is scheduled to meet England FA officials today. Frankly speaking he is the right man for the job and it could not have gone to a nicer bloke, that cliche about nice guys not doing well in a hotspot job like that is not true.

Liverpool missed a great chance with Hodgson when he was at Liverpool. The fans were just impatient and when Dalglish was there watching the matches it did not help. He was not given a fair chance by Liverpool and it just goes to show how bad Liverpool are when they failed to spot a good manager. I have been following Hodgson's career since I was 10! In those old shoot magazines he has coached in Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Norway, Italy, Finland, Switzerland and of course England.

He has a wealth of experience and can manage a team and bring the best out of them with a shoe-string budget. Look at what he did at Fulham even taking them to a UEFA Cup final and now steering West Bromwich Albion away safely from the relegation zone.

At Liverpool though he had to deal with big players and their egos and he had to face this at Inter Milan too. despite two stints at Inter the players there did not warm up to him kindly, the only weakness that Hodgson might have is that he was never a professional player, but needs to put his foot down and show them who is boss. For Hodgson is a good coach and he must not be overawed by players who think they know more, just look at Mourinho - Hodgson has  a better playing record than him- He might face this with players like Ashley Cole and John Terry who were instrumental in the mutiny of Vilas Boas at Chelsea.

On the other hand Hodgson is a turn around specialist so this stint actually can be a good motivation for him,the wave of inspiration of Chelsea beating Barcelona can  also be a good tonic for the players.England however can win the European Championship this time, they just might pull it off not because they are technically gifted, but sometimes the human spirit can carry you far in a short tournament like this. This was proven in 1992 by Denmark and 2004 by Greece when both countries won it and stunned the football world despite playing defensive football and even looking fragile in their matches. However be aware of false dawns like England in 1966 and Liverpool's Champions League triumph by Benitez in his first season there. England do not even have a Technical Director (TD), England have not had a TD for almost 10 years and this perhaps shows why England have performed badly at international level. At the international level it is more tactical though and this might be Hodgson's ideal environment, not bad for a non-league footballer.
