Can Egypt defend the title?
Well I was busy as a bee not making money but I had a feast watching the African Nations Cup and the world Futsal 5s in Kuala Lumpur. It definitely brought back some good old feelings of what football is actually all about. First let us talk about the African Nations Cup, with teams like Camerron, Ghana, Egypt, Guinea, Zambia, Senegal, etc it was exciting I saw some brilliant games and some wonderful skills.
If you want to see the purity and skill of yesteryear like the 60s, 70s or 80s style of football where pure skill was at the attraction, the African Nations Cup is it. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that the game is backwards in Africa, after all we do have a lot of African players playing in Europe, but I think the fact that the continent is stuck in the doldrums in-terms of economy and development, but this has in some ways preserved the skillful side of the game. The combination of the home based players and the foreign African players bring out the best.
I think The Cameroon V Egypt match was a classic match, it showed that size actually did not matter. The Cameroonians were taller and bigger than most of the Egyptians but the nippy Egyptians were fast Mohamad Zidan was a terror and Egypt won 4-2. Now it is the semi-finals Egypt take on Ivory Coast and hosts Ghana take on Cameroon. Well somehow I predict this to be a Cameroon V Egypt final with the Lions eating the Pharoahs.
For those who had the privelege of watching the Futsal fives in KL..man oh man!!! Brasil is the team played six won six and they did not let in any goals, whacked Argentina 4-0 in the final and they played with their reserve team and Falcao the best Futsal player in the world did not play most of the time!!! Enough said!
