The enigma...Mourinho

The windmill celebrations of Jose Mourinho when Chelsea beat Barcelona just goes to show the enigma of Mourinho. The cool, calm and calculated manager never shows emotions at press conferences, but he does not hide his joy when he wins or when his team scores a goal. He even can be seen sometimes getting angry when players are not performing to expectations (in Chelsea's case very rare).

Already he has won the League cup with Chelsea add to that a couple of championships and Portuguese cups, UEFA cup and a Champions league, not bad for a guy who never played football at a top flight level.

In the match against Barcelona, it was Chelsea making waves when they were leading 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. Barcelona's defence had a sense of naivety about it, even though Barcelona caught up with two more goals, the Catalans proved this point again when John Terry had an easy time to head the ball, as the marking was poor.

We all know about Mourinho, about him declaring he wanted to be the best coach in the world at the age of 15 after his father who was threatened to be sacked by the President of Vitoria Setubal(The club the father managed) if Mourinho was chosen to play.

Was Mourinho that bad? Well the father instead decided for him to do scouting (match) reports at that tender age and his mother would check the spelling mistakes. It goes without saying that this certainly helped to become the football maestro that he is.

With a degree in sports science and the ability to speak five languages Mourinho was more then ready. He got a job as a translator for Bobby Robson (he also took his UEFA coaching license course), the rest as they say is history.

He is known for his meticulous preparations having dossiers and files on upcoming opponents, he has this together with some tactics stored on his laptop computer and even gives a powerpoint presentation to his Chairman sometimes (Even the role of the Chairman!).

The team at Porto or Chelsea though is not all about Mourinho, one of the main weapons of Mourinho is Andreas Villas Boas the 27 year old who is also a sports science graduate and offers detailed analysis of opponents. For instance he addresses the height of a player in proportion to marking and he prepares a five page summary of his opponents.

The others in his team from Portugal are 30-year old Rui Faria, the Fitness coach (who also never had a playing career) and 46 year old goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro who once played for Vitoria Setubal.
